Finnish Seafarers´ Union FSU
Supporting actions by the Finnish Seafarers’ Union due to the postal service strike
The board of the Finnish Seafarers’ Union has at their meeting today on the 14th of November 2019 decided to initiate actions in support of the Finnish Post and Logistics Union PAU as follows:
Monday 18 November 2019 starting at 6 a.m.
No “Posti” transports or packages will be accepted onboard any crafts, ferries, and cable ferries in domestic traffic or onboard cargo- and ropax-vessels or passenger car ferries in foreign traffic. Such transports or packages will be left in port.
Thursday 21 November 2019 starting at 6 a.m.
Cargo transports/handling taking place on the car decks of ropax-vessels and passenger car ferries in foreign traffic will be halted by not admitting any trucks, tanker trucks, trailers, or similar vehicles onto the car decks. Passenger cars and buses may be transported on car decks.
Those members of the Finnish Seafarers’ Union working on the icebreakers in icebreaking related tasks will not follow the vessels out to sea. They will, however, carry out their normal work duties when the vessels are in port.
Monday 25 November 2019 starting at 6 a.m.
All cargo-, ropax-, and passenger vessels in foreign traffic and sailing under the Finnish flag or arriving at a port in Finland after 6 a.m. will remain in port, and no member of the Finnish Seafarers’ Union will follow the vessels out to sea. They will, however, carry out their normal work duties when the vessels are in port.
Duration of the supporting actions
The supporting actions will continue until a resolution is reached by “Posti” and PAU, representing “Posti” employees, unless otherwise is announced later.
The Finnish Seafarers’ Union condemns the actions taken by “Posti”, whose intention is to weaken the salary and employment terms of their employees, and for trying to interrupt the legal strike initiated by PAU and will consider extending the supporting actions if needed.
