The Finnish Seamen's Union provides you with security and helps in issues concerning working life, no matter whether or not you are student in the maritime or already a working member. The most important task of the Finnish Seamen's Union is to promote the interests and defend the rights of its members.

The Union supports and protects you

As a member of the Finnish Seamen's Union, you will receive protection and help in all matters concerning your employment relationship, no matter whether or not it is a question about e.g. your working hours or wages/salary.

Collective Bargaining Agreement

The Finnish Seamen's Union concludes for its members, collective bargaining agreements either with the ship owners association or with individual shipping companies. The agreements define the terms and conditions of the employment relationship such as salaries, working hours, over time remuneration etc.

Your shop steward will help

If you encounter issues concerning your employment relationship or you encounter problem situations in your working place, your shop steward who is elected by the members of the Finnish Seamen's Union will help you or you can turn to the personnel of the Finnish Seamen's Union for help.

Education

As a member of the Finnish Seamen's Union you are entitled to participate in various courses and education events. The Finnish Seamen's Union actively participates in the development of seafarer's education and works in co-operation with many different maritime institutes and colleges.
